How The Village Barn Raised Over $30,000
Various groups at BRC, including Bridgewater Home Auxiliary, Environmental Services, and Village Residents Association, have for many years held yard sales once or twice a year. When the Bridgewater Rescue Squad moved to a new location a few years ago, it presented a golden opportunity. BRC purchased the old location, adjacent to our Village, and Village residents began using that as a site to collect, store and sell yard sale items.
A devoted core group of 15-20 works to keep the momentum going, and are joined by an even larger group of people throughout the year. Items are donated by BRC Villagers as well as by people from the broader community. Yard sales have become increasingly frequent, and increasingly popular.
Earlier this month (Monday, November 5th), it was announced that in the past year, the yard sales have generated about $33,000 in proceeds.
The Village Residents Association voted to rename the location the “Village Barn” and to use the past year’s yard sale proceeds to support:
- Bridgewater Volunteer Rescue Squad
- Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Company
- The Arc Harrisonburg and Rockingham
- The Resident Care Endowment Fund of Bridgewater HealthCare Foundation, which assists BRC residents who have outlived their financial resources
