Pioneer Network News – Rodney D. Alderfer

Rodney D. Alderfer, President of Bridgewater Retirement Community, has been elected to serve as a board member of the Pioneer Network.

Pioneer Network, a national organization based in Rochester, New York, was formed in 1997 to advocate for person-directed care in nursing homes. Since its inception, the Pioneer Network has grown and evolved into a center for thought leaders and innovators in the field of aging, although its primary focus remains building home and a sense of community for elders — in nursing homes, or wherever home may be. The Pioneer Network continues to be a resource to the field of long-term and nursing home care, a clearinghouse for ideas, and a facilitator of partnerships focusing on issues of culture change and person-centered care.

Alderfer became President of Bridgewater Retirement Community in July of 2008 and has spearheaded the transformation of its nursing home from a very traditional medical model into one of the areas most innovative and resident-centered nursing programs.

To remain eligible for the Home No Matter What Promise, residents must fulfill their obligations in turn as citizens of the BRC community and not give away the resources needed to meet financial obligations to BRC.
