Volunteer Spotlight: Delta Gamma Sorority

This month for our Volunteer Spotlight we recognize not an individual but rather an entire group that deserves recognition and thanks: Delta Gamma Sorority from James Madison University.

The total membership of this group is between 150 to 175 young women, and they put in hundreds of hours of volunteer service every year.

The remarkable women of Delta Gamma have forged a close connection with Bridgewater Retirement Community. BRC Volunteer Services Director Laura Powell is in contact with their leadership, keeping them informed throughout the year about opportunities to make a difference for BRC residents.

She provides times and activities so different small groups within the sorority can choose when to help out.

In the past year, Delta Gamma supported big projects like BRC’s Day of Thanks, the Bridgewater Home Auxiliary’s Evening with the Stars, Christmas Tree decorating for the annual Open House in Maple Terrace, and the labor-intensive Easter Basket project we highlighted in last month’s e-newsletter. They have also helped with weekly Household Bingo and other events.

“Their help with Easter baskets was invaluable,” Laura explained.  “They were there every step of the way, and they really made a difference for us. Their work was the key to our success in getting approximately 200 individualized baskets ready to be delivered. We are deeply appreciative of this group and all they do for us at BRC.”

The academic year at JMU having just concluded, we wish all the Delta Gamma sisters who just graduated all the best as they embark on their next chapters, and we hope they will come back to visit. We already miss them!

And we are already looking forward to the Fall, when their younger sisters will pick up where they left off, supporting our residents in myriad ways.

To remain eligible for the Home No Matter What Promise, residents must fulfill their obligations in turn as citizens of the BRC community and not give away the resources needed to meet financial obligations to BRC.
